We had a great night of short sleep and woke up to Africa. We ate a big breakfast and went to exchange money. Ben is the MIC (Missionary in Charge) of the finances and has been guarding the money with his life! He is doing a great job keeping up with it. He does not set the back pack down. We spent several hours riding on a bus to the village of Kitui in east Kenya. Because of the bumpy roads it took a little longer than expected. Along the way, we actually saw a Giraffe, some zebras, and a wandering wildebeest. We drove straight to a secondary school where the kids were gathered and waiting for us. We had about 5 minutes to prepare a program with the Kenyan team from Nairobi. I was so proud of the kids for stepping up and saying "sure I'll sing a special." Jordan Dunnington and Kristin Riach shared their testimonies to about 60 high school kids. They did a great job and the kids were very responsive. Our students sang a song they practiced for about 1 minute before going in. Jon preached the word of God and we sang worship songs with the Kenyan team. There is nothing like hearing children sing praises to God in any language. It was very touching. We then gave them candy and headed to an orphanage for blind children. We toured their facility and one child became very attached to us (starting with Ben). We sang and they sang and it was incredible. We arrived back to eat a Kenyan meal prepared by many women in the church. (Several of us brave ones tried the intestines. "Taste like chicken" was not what was said!) We are getting ready to really experience the village life tonight. I will let someone else tell you about that tomorrow. God is so good and we thank you for all the prayers and comments. You would be so proud of your kids for being willing vessels to whatever God has them do. They are missionaries in Africa in every sense of the word!

Hey, Guys and Gals,
ReplyDeleteWe finally saw sun today for the first time in Austin in 4 days! We are praising the Lord for the much needed rain.
We are also praising the Lord that you got to Kenya safe and sound with all your belongings intact! I think I shared with you once about a couple our age (in 70's) who went to Africa from our church as missionaries and did not last a year because the bad roads caused their back bones to have a multitude of microscopic cracks and they could no longer pass the physicals required to stay!
Love your blog---keep it coming! Your blessed Mama "B"
Team Africa!
ReplyDeleteHow blessed each of you are to be used of God in this way. Take in every moment of ministry and keep your spiritual eyes and ears open for unusual ministry opportunities. We all know that God's agenda often includes things that somehow didn't make it onto our agendas (smile)!
Let every fruit and gift of the Spirit be manifested and watch the wonders of God abound for the glory of His Name! Be blessed as you bless others.
Praying continually,
Lydia Dunnington
